22 (2009) NVQs being undertaken in Business Improvement
Springfields Fuels have recently established and delivered the Westinghouse Manufacturing System (WMS) Academy programme in Business Improvement, the WMS Academy programme was delivered internally by Springfields experts using local examples and real life scenarios, thus proving to be successful for the business and the individual.
Springfields Fuels were very keen to have this programme accredited to benefit both the individual and the company. Blackpool and the Fylde College – one of the Skills Academy’s Quality Assured Providers in the region - presented information to Springfield Fuels on the NVQs in Business Improvement and discussed the possibility for on site delivery. Funding was also discussed and it was agreed that if funding could be sought via the Cogent Sector Compact through ‘Train to Gain’, Springfields would put a pilot group through the NVQs in Business Improvement.
It was agreed that the College assessors for the NVQ would attend one of the WMS training sessions ready for the pilot to commence. 22 employees have now enrolled (2009) with Blackpool & Fylde College to undertake the Business Improvement Techniques NVQ.
Due to the nature of the plants, shift working patterns and site requirements the college assessors have been undertaking site and plant inductions in order to smooth the assessment process. The HEX business unit will be encouraging all employees within their department the opportunity to undertake the NVQ.
Chris Goddard, Head of Hex Operations said
"I am very supportive of the internal training undertaken and the personal rewards and credit that the NVQ provides, ultimately this will help drive the HEX business forward and support the challenge of improving business performance’’
