Nuclear Cyber Security Course Launched Online

An online version of NSAN’s Cyber Security course has been launched online.  The course is available from today via the Nuclear Training Network (NTN) e-learning platform.

Cyber security is a growing issue for all organisations, large and small.  Across the UK, 65% of companies have had cyber-related incidents in the last 12 months; the reparation of which is becoming increasingly costly.  The growing number of breaches have the potential to cause serious financial, operational and reputational damage.

The online course has been developed by STS Nuclear (part of STS Defence Ltd) in collaboration with NSAN and its employer members, who wanted an easily accessible cyber security course for employees to address the issues around being cyber secure both in a nuclear/work context and at home.

The online course features general cyber and information security best practice, plus:
• Civil Nuclear Cyber Security Strategy
• ONR SyAps (Security Assessment Principles)
• NDA Cyber Security Strategy (NDA version only for employees of NDA sites – this is a separate course on the NTN)
• Cyber Essentials
• General Security Classification (GSC)
• General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Jo Tipa, Managing Director, NSAN commented:

“Cyber security and information management is a vitally important area for all companies.  Our cyber security courses have been developed at the request of members to put the issues of cyber security into a nuclear context.  NSAN has reacted to the accessibility needs of the industry and now provides the options of classroom based learning and e-learning.”

The feedback from the pilot group has been excellent;

“Good training package, good examples, graphics & pleased to see BEIS & NDA strategy along with the ONR SyAps.”

“I think it will be informative to the end-user community and should make them think about Cyber Security, lots of positives.  Played through very well.”

The course is estimated to take around an hour to complete, and includes an online exam at the end of the course.  On successful completion of the examination, a certificate is issued.

The course is available for registrations.  Employees of NSAN member companies will receive a 50% discount, reducing the cost from £70.00 to £35.00.

If you are employed on a NDA site, the NDA Cyber Security – General Awareness course is also available via the NTN.
