The Wylfa Newydd Project is developing a nuclear power station in Anglesey, Wales. The Environmental Planning specialist will work with the Project team to support permitting requirements, support liaison with the authorities, and prepare/gather necessary permitting documentation, track permits through their lifecycle, and flow down permit conditions to the Project team.  The post holder will also provide support to the Project in the interpretation of planning conditions, and may also be required to support on general environmental matters.

Initial assignment location is Gloucester UK. Site mobilisation is forecast in 2020/2021 for construction execution in Anglesey Island, Wales.


  • Identify permitting requirements applicable to the Project, through review of legislation and interaction with authorities.
  • Maintain the Permits database, and is responsible for tracking submittals and approvals.
  • Coordinate preparation of permit applications.
  • Participate in meetings with stakeholders and authorities.
  • Input into the Project compliance register to provide visibility of the conditions that have been placed on the Project, monitor compliance against requirements and maintain evidence of performance to satisfy stakeholders that the Project is meeting its obligations.
  • Provides specialized input to Engineering, Construction, and Subcontracts, thus ensuring that the Planning Conditions are integrated into project planning, design criteria, construction plans, specifications and subcontracts so that they can be discharged in the most effective way.
  • Participates in meetings with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of specialized Planning Conditions that may affect project design, construction schedule, and cost.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the industry and changes in the legislation and planning requirements which might impact the Project.


  • B.Sc degree in Life Sciences (e.g. Biology, Ecology, Forestry) or Physical Sciences (e.g. Geology, Meteorology) or Environmental Engineering from an accredited college or university.  Associate Member of IEMA (AIEMA) or equivalent.
  • Advanced knowledge of local environmental laws/regulations & regulatory agencies permitting processes/responsibilities, industry standards for environmental compliance & best management practices for minimizing potential environmental impacts during project execution.
  • Knowledge of engineering & construction systems, methods & work processes.
  • Skilled in oral & written communication & knowledge of computer applications.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required BPSS security check.
  • Must have the right to work and remain in the UK without requiring company sponsorship.


  • Recent relevant experience in permitting within the United Kingdom.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of UK or local environmental regulations.
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies in a permitting, compliance, or operations role.
  • Capable of working on a team, using judgment and discretion to make decisions which may impact facility operations and compliance.


  • Experience in dealing with Welsh authorities including Natural Resources Wales and Cadw.
  • Knowledge of general environmental issues and compliance methods.
  • Associate member of IEMA or equivalent .
