The objective of the Department of Nuclear Energy is to foster the efficient and safe use of nuclear power by supporting interested Member States in improving the performance of nuclear power plants, the nuclear fuel cycle, and the management of nuclear wastes; in catalysing innovation in nuclear power and fuel cycle technologies; in developing indigenous capabilities for national energy planning; in deploying new nuclear power plants; in preserving and disseminating nuclear information and knowledge; and in advancing science and industry through improved operation of research reactors.
Reporting to the Deputy Director General, Programme Coordinator provides advise on the design, planning and implementation of Departmental programmes, coordinates strategy and ensure consistency within the IAEA’s results based management framework, ensures harmonization of the Department’s interactions with UN bodies and other international organizations, and ensures quality preparation of policy papers, official documents and scientific reviews for the policy making organs
The Programme Coordinator is: (1) an analyst, reviewing and analysing complex information from a broad range of sources and communicating concise useful conclusions; (2) a planner, leveraging analysis into concrete proposals for improving the performance of the Department; (3) an adviser, who provides Programme Managers and the Head of the Department of Nuclear Energy (DDG-NE) advice and guidance in the formulation of rationales, priorities, objectives, outcomes and performance indicators for their programmes and reviewing their performance; (4) a coordinator, providing support to the DDG-NE in Programme implementation and coordination within the Department, across the IAEA and with external partners; and (5) an IAEA representative – representing, as needed, the Department and the IAEA in coordination activities and joint initiatives with other organizations.
